DHAMMANAND is located in Markal village, 30 km. from Pune railway station and 25 km from the airport. It can be reached by public bus in about one hours time.
There are two routes of approach
1.) Via Alandi village (a famous holy pilgrim spot, where devotees of the saint Dnyaneshwar visit)
2.) Via Nagar road (highway to Ahmednagar)
People going from Pune Corporation better to go from Alandi. Same is the case when they return from Markal
-The Pune Vipassana Centre (PVC) was established in March 1997. A 10-day course was conducted in the presence of Mr. and Mrs.S.N.Goenka, the principal teachers of Vipassana meditation.
-This 23 acre centre named Dhammananda (Joy of Dhamma) is situated on the bank of the Indrayani river, about one hour drive from the heart of Poona city
-The present meditation hall comfortably seats 100-125 students, more than the current residential capacity of the centre.
-The grounds of the centre have many flowers, trees, bushes and shrubs. Overall, the centre provides a quiet, secluded and comfortable environment for the self-introspection that forms an integral part of a Vipassana meditation course.
From Alandi jeep taxis are easily available to reach Markal (9 km away), costing Rs 5 to15/- per person.
The Vipassana centre is a one kilometer walk from the bus/jeep stop at Marka All course students must reach the Vipassana centre by 4.00 pm latest on the day the course commences.
In case you get to Pune a day earlier do not get to the Pune Vipassana centre on your own. There are no facilities for non-meditators or female meditators to stay at the centre between the courses. Put up in some lodge or hotel near the railway or bus stations. Please call Pune Vipassana Office in case of any problem.
